18 TIPS TO KEEP YOUR SKIN YOUNGER AND MORE HEALTHY
We all know the skin as the most largest organ in the body but very delicate, the skin colour is the result of a protein called melanin. Large tentacle-like cells called melanocytes produce and distribute melanin.
Human skin comes in a very wide range of colours from all different parts of the world.
Around 7% of skin cells are melanocytes.
Everyone has the same number of melanocytes. Skin colour is due to their activity, not quantity.
There are two types of melanin:
1) Yellow to Red in Colour. (Pheomelanin)
2) EuDark Brown to Black.
1 in 110,000 people have albinism, a lack of melanocytes.
Melanin is also responsible for eye colour. The skin covering the eye is transparent.
It takes up to 6 Months for babies to develop their permanent skin tone.
So you can see how important the skin is,taking care of it is our number one priority.
Thus, here are some tips on how to take care of your skin according to your skin type;
1) USE AN OINTMENT OR CREAM RATHER THAN A LOTION.
Ointments and creams are more effective and less irritating than lotions for most dry skins.
Look for a cream or ointment that contains one or more of the following ingredients:
Jojoba oil
Dimethicone
Glycerin
Hyaluronic acid
Lactic acid
Lanolin.
2) USE ONLY GENTLE, FRAGRANCE-FREE SKIN CARE PRODUCTS.
Some skin care products, such as deodorant soaps, are too harsh for dry, sensitive skin. Dermatologists recommend using products labeled "fragrance-free."
NOTE: The word "unscented," in a product means the it contains chemicals that neutralize or hide the odors of other ingredients. These chemicals can irritate dry, sensitive skin.
3) TAKE AN OATMEAL BATH
Oats have been used to treat dry skin for centuries. But only recently have researchers found what eases the itch: chemicals called avenanthramides that fight inflammation and redness.
To make the most of oats’ itch-fighting power, toss them into lukewarm bathwater. Grind either quick or old-fashioned oatmeal in a blender or food processor and slowly sprinkle it into the tub as the water runs. Then soak for at least 15 minutes.
4) DON’T SLEEP IN YOUR MAKEUP.
Always remove all makeup before going to sleep.
5) DO USE BLOTTING PAPERS THROUGHOUT THE DAY
Gently press the paper against your face and leave it on for a few seconds to absorb the oil. Don’t rub the paper on your face, as this will spread the oil to other areas.
6) RESIST TOUCHING YOUR FACE
Although it’s tempting to touch your face, doing so can spread dirt and bacteria from your hands to your face.
Only touch your face when you’re cleansing, moisturizing or applying sunscreen or makeup, and make sure your hands are clean.
7) SEEK SHADE
Avoid the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., when the sun's rays are strongest.
8) DON'T SMOKE
Smoking makes your skin look older and contributes to wrinkles. Smoking narrows the tiny blood vessels in the outermost layers of skin, which decreases blood flow and makes skin paler.
This also depletes the skin of oxygen and nutrients that are important to skin health.
Smoking also damages collagen and elastin — the fibers that give your skin strength and elasticity.
9) BATH TIME
Hot water and long showers or baths remove oils from your skin. Limit your bath or shower time, and use warm — rather than hot — water.
10) AVOID STRONG SOAPS
Strong soaps and detergents can strip oil from your skin. Instead, choose mild cleansers.
11) SHAVE CAREFULLY
To protect and lubricate your skin, apply shaving cream, lotion or gel before shaving. For the closest shave, use a clean, sharp razor. Shave in the direction the hair grows, not against it.
12) PAT DRY
After washing or bathing, gently pat or blot your skin dry with a towel so that some moisture remains on your skin.
13) USE A OIL-BALANCING CLEANSER
If you have oily skin or breakouts on specific areas of your face, your first instinct might be to reach for the cleanser. Before lathering up, we recommend checking the ingredient label on your cleanser, to make sure it’s not doing more harm than good. Some ingredients, like denatured alcohol, may dry out (and even prematurely age) your skin.
14) MIX AND MATCH YOUR MOISTURIZERS
For combination skin, some dermatologists recommend using two different moisturizers to treat your separate skin woes. The Derm Review suggests treating dry skin areas with an emollient-rich moisturizer, while treating oily skin areas with a moisturizer that contains acne-fighting ingredients.
15) DANCING MAKES THE SKIN GLOW
It has been discovered that dancing increases the blood flow to the body so more oxygen and nutrients are pumped into your skin cell.
The free radicals are kept out and detoxification is influenced.
All this helps your skin looks younger.
17) DRINK WATER
Water hydrates the skin and helps to give it a more healthy and silky look,it is recommended to drink atleast 6 glasses of water per day.
For those that doesn't fancy drink water, a little taste should do.
Adding lemons to a glass of water would do the trick.
